In a small Balkan village near the end of World War II, a band of soldiers play a cruel game of ultimate stakes with a priest and his flock. Jan Jovic reluctantly participates. But he’s prepared neither for the incredible demonstration of love, nor the terrible events that follow. Now, many years later, that game will spring to life in Jan’s own heart. He will fall madly in love with the wrong woman, her name is Helen. Now it’s Jan’s turn to play the game. But there is a price.

Dive into a romantic thriller like none you’ve ever read. Drink deeply of a love that will bring a tremor to your bones. Go ahead, it’s your turn to play the game. But remember…there is a price. And no one could possibly prepare you for that price.

Book two in The Martyr’s Song series, When Heaven Weeps made some pretty bold statements on the back of the book, but the best part of all was that it actually lived up to its epic claims.

The story spans over a host of locations and times, but does not get lost in the size of itself. It is a daring story to say the least, but I think it was handled and written remarkably well. There are books that you “can’t put down”, then there are books that you skip dinner, call in sick to work (just kidding ) and neglect sleep over. For me, this was one of those books, and I kept thinking about the plot a very long time after reading the last chapter.

Diving into topics such as a burning faith that grows cold, God’s overwhelming patience with us, and His remarkable love for the ones that seem like the lowest of the low – the ones which people who are quite comfortable in their world of riches, and even faith, look down upon. There is also an underlying theme that unless sin is severed at the roots, over time it will fester back into a stronger weed than it was before. This story has incredible quotes, insights and a wonderful injection of action to keep people who are wired like myself happy. It deserves nothing less than a five star rating.

So unlike Thunder of Heaven, When Heaven Weeps goes straight to the Hall of Fame with my personal recommendation to read it. Stay tuned for the review of Heaven’s Wager when I can finally track down a copy.
